 * I am trying to decide how to build a website for a client who wants a site in
   the “Simplest language known to man”. He wants me to build the site, and he wants
   to be able to edit text on a main or home page, have a page for book reviews
   and articles that he offers (no associated reply or comment capability), and
   then a blog page.
 * I kept hearing about how easy WordPress is, and decided that I should check it
   out. So far it is much more complex than I had imagined from what I had heard,
   but for what he wants, with me defining the site and him just doing his thing
   with sections he can edit and a place to blog, maybe it is still appropriate.
 * I don’t want to waste a lot of time learning WordPress if it isn’t going to meet
   our needs (well, maybe I would like to learn it later – it looks interesting).
   So can anyone hear offer their opinion on WordPress’s appropriateness for this
   project?

 * If he wants a blog as well as static pages, WordPress is perfect. I have a few
   really non-tech-savvy clients using WP and after a couple of hours of training
   they were able to get the hang of it and they love it. And if you’re a professional
   web designer you’ll have a very popular CMS in your toolkit.
 * If you have any specific questions, just let me know.

 * Hi Zoonini,
 * Thank you for your feedback! Yes I do have some questions – some specific and
   some more general. I have only spent about 4 or 5 hours trying to get my arms
   around WordPress. But what I had read about it being easy left me frustrated
   that after that amount of time my understanding was still pretty limited.
 * Yesterday I felt mostly frustrated, but today I feel like I am making some progress.
   I have three particular questions this morning.
 * 1. I figured out how to turn off the comments and blogs for the home page, but
   how do I turn them off only for the home page? When I turn them off it applies
   that setting to all of the pages.
 * 2. How do I control link order? For that matter, how do I make sure that when
   I create a page (or blog) that a link is created for it? Yesterday I created
   a page under one theme, and it created a page link. Later I changed themes, and
   after that created two new pages, and there were not page links created for them.
   But it occurs to me that I did not look to see if there was a blog link created.
   So maybe that was what I was missing. Being from the web design world I tend
   to think of everything as a page, and that a blog would be something on a page.
   But I have noticed that WordPress thinks that a page and a blog are two separate
   things.
 * 3. I deleted that sample page, having forgotten it was the home page. Now when
   I go to my website, it says “The page cannot be found”. How do I make a page
   into my home page? I tried renaming a page to “sample”, and then to “index” but
   that didn’t work.
 * Thanks much for your help! If you want to email me offline, my email is _[email
   redacted per forum policy]_

 * Unless you’re using a static front page, you don’t actually have comments available
   on the home page. If you are using a static front page, just disable them for
   that page.

 * Carefully. I use link ‘ratings’ and then when I display them, I sort by rating.

 * Since this is no longer a “Miscellaneous” thread, I am going to open a new thread
   on the “How to … ” board.
 * thanks!

 * Hi Zoonini,
 * I have found answers to all of these questions (and some others). I am still
   struggling with a couple of things, but I am getting much more comfortable with
   WordPress. Thanks for your support!
