WordPress APIs / GPL License (3 posts)

I'm curious - a colleague tells me that because WordPress' API is handled via the GPL public license, that if we develop an iPhone app that uses that API to tap into our WP database, we'll need to provide the source code publicly on our website.

    Is this true?

The app will be free, and distributing the source code wouldn't be a problem, I don't think, but I'm curious if that's what that specifically means.

Wouldn't that then mean that the source code for all themes that work with WordPress must be distributed as well, even if they're for sale?

  2. I don't believe that's so.

However I would ask that here: http://wordpressfoundation.org/contact/
