WordPress address (URL) Will Not Change

Hello, although I can modify this General Settings field

General Settings > WordPress address (URL) [field]

The URL stays the same.

I am wanting to change

http://bikingindallas.com

to

http://www.bikingindallas.com

This actually used to work until I changed themes. I LOVE my new theme but not this problem.

I saw this post that may have my answer but it’s resolved so I cannot ask for clarification there:

The solutions was (in short) “add this and delete those two lines” but it wasn’t clear where (withing the page) exactly to add the lines etc.

Anyhow, if you are familiar with the solution I’d appreciate some guidance 🙂 Thanks

Could always try adding WP_SITEURL and WP_HOME values to your wp-config.php file.

Thanks, Michael. I got brave and added these lines to the wp-config.php file:

/** The site URL */
define(‘WP_SITEURL’, ‘http://www.bikingindallas.com’);

/** Define HOME */
define(‘WP_HOME’, ‘http://www.bikingindallas.com’);

And nothing changed, at least not yet. Is my code correct?

And would you mind going to
http://bikingindallas.com and tell me if the URL changes to http://www.bikingindallas.com

Weird that when you click on other internal links it then redirects to add the WWW but not on the front page, at least not the first time to you go to the site

Also, the

General Settings > WordPress address (URL) [field]

field is now grayed out which is to be expected but the redirect still does not seem to work at least not at the root level.

So guess adding those lines to wp-config.php didn’t help. If you delete those from wp-config.php then you can edit the values in Settings->General, correct? And both values in Settings->General use the www, correct.

But if you change to the WordPress Default theme then it works as you want?

I just migrated my site, and the search and replace plugin was excellent for replacing all my links in my database from those without www to those with, and correcting the new domain name…try that…

Try adding

update_option(‘siteurl’,’http://www.bikingindallas.com’);
update_option(‘home’,’http://www.bikingindallas.com’);

right after <?php
in the wp-content/themes/”yourtheme”/functions.php
