WordPress a beginner's Site Creation Tool?

    Hi
    Is WordPress the first tool to use as a beginner? I am seeking a tool to quickly create basic, professional and secure websites. I don’t want to make the sites secure. The tool should do this for me automatically. I made one simple website using Dreamweaver which took too long. I have used HTML, CSS and ASP coding at a starter level. I need a tool that sits higher than a template, but not much higher. It should also provide all the features of optimisation and help build sites that are compatible with different browsers automatically. Have I come to the wrong place? Perhaps a dream?

    WP CAN do what you want, but there is a learning curve. And to do much customization of whatever theme you pick will require understanding and learning some html, css and possibly php. WP themes work in all browsers — though if you make changes to the theme (including some plug-ins), you can run into browser problems (generally errors that you’ve created).

    Another thing to consider is that this site (WordPress.ORG) is for self-hosted sites — i.e. you have to have a hosting provider — and you thus have to do all your own installation, maintenance and making sure your site IS secure (partly a hosting/server issue). If you are unable to do all that, you might want to consider a WordPress.COM site. They do a lot more of the behind the scenes work — but you have fewer options and/or they cost money.

    Thanks WPyogi. WordPress seems to be very popular right now, but I have yet to find out why? I am sure there must be good reasons to use WordPress and I am prepared to curve learn if it works well. Plus I have read that off the shelf software creates sites that don’t work, are difficult to change and you have to use their hosting services. I don’t know how much of this is true.

    I read that a website can be attacked if you use javascript and the like. Will I need to be aware of using certain code in WordPress?
