    Here is the rundown:

I have been using Gutenberg as a separate plugin for a few months now. As flawed and temperamental as it can be, it helps me organize my pages.

Just now, I received the notification that wordpress 5 was available, so I installed.

Page editing ceased to work. clicking “edit page” either from the dashboard or the page toolbar pulled up a blank white page.

I dug around and found that wordpress 5 deactivated the standalone Gutenburg plugin. I expected this, as Gutenberg is now built in to the core, right? On a hunch, I reactivated the old plugin, and now I can edit pages again.

My hunch is that if you are already using Gutenberg, you are going to have some conflicts between the new wordpress and the old gutenburg plugin.

    Edit: Additional information

On some of my pages I had a large image at the top of the page as kind of a header for the page, just under the title. After upgrading to WordPress 5 some of these images disappeared. After re-activating the old Gutenberg plugin, those images came BACK.

@photogent The Gutenberg plugin is no longer needed, if you’re on 5.0. However based on your description, I suspect you have some code written that relies on some Gutenberg specific functions, instead of the ones in 5.0.

So don’t know why it happened, but just in a matter of troubleshooting and finding additional information, I deactivated the original Gutenberg plugin. Editing still works, so whatever was temporarily out of wack, activating and deactivating the old plugin seemed to clear the issue.

    Maybe a caching issue.

Please do not jump into other topics. If the troubleshooting already posted made no difference for you, then, as per the Forum Welcome, please post your own topic. A lot more people will see your post this way. That way you stand a good chance of getting the assistance you want. Despite any similarity in symptoms, your issue is likely to be completely different because of possible differences in physical servers, accounts, hosts, plugins, theme, configurations, etc. Thus one problem, on one setup is not indicative of the functionality and reliability of an application as a whole.
