WordPress 4.0 Issue: Issue w/ Insert/Edit Link in Visual Editor
-
First, I have already followed extensive steps to troubleshoot this issue. It was only fixed when I added the
define('SCRIPT_DEBUG', true);
code to the wp-config.php file. See below for detailsIssue: I’m running WordPress 4.0 and the Insert/Edit Link button in the Visual Editor doesn’t work. It’s greyed out so the button can’t be used when text is highlighted. The mac keyboard command of Option+shift+A also doesn’t work.
The link button works in the text editor tab, but the link can’t be edited when switched back to the visual editor. The Remove Link button also doesn’t work when switched back to the visual editor.
Issue found on http://www.babysavers.com, running Genesis theme with the Blissful child theme.
Troubleshooting steps taken:
- After WordPress 4.0 was installed, I tested the issue in Chrome and Firefox on a mac. Another member of my team also tested it in Chrome on a Windows computer. The issue existed in all browsers with all operating systems.
- I flushed both the Firefox and Chrome browser caches on my computer, plus deleted my site’s cache after every taken.
- I disabled ALL plugins on http://www.babysavers.com, cleared my browser cache and tried to use the Insert/Edit Link function in the visual editor. The issue remained unresolved.
- I kept all plugins disabled and switched to the Twenty Fourteen theme. Cleared my browser cache and tested the Insert/Edit link button again. No change.
- I followed instructions found here and did the following:
Tried replacing /wp-includes/js/tinymce/ with fresh copy. No change. - I manually upgraded to WordPress 4.0 by downloading a new copy of it from wordpress.org, then reinstalled 4.0. No change.
- I followed the directions here to use my browser to diagnose JS errors. I enabled Script_Debug by adding
define('SCRIPT_DEBUG', true);
to the wp-config.php file.
Tried to add
define('CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS', false);
to the wp-config.php file. No change.Since the issue was fixed with the script debugging I’m following the instructions and Reporting the issue on the support forum, telling the volunteers that [I] turned on script debugging and it solved the problem.
