wordpress 4.6.2 update release date? | WordPress.org

Hi,
all my WordPress-based sites running version 4.6.1 have just been automatically updated today to 4.6.2.

I wasn’t aware of 4.6.2, there is no mention of it in the WP blog and very little comes up on google.

When was it released? Why was WP quiet about it? (Or was I not paying attention?)
Maybe I’m just being overly cautious about what goes into my websites….

It was released today and includes all of the security fixes from 4.7.1 backported to the 4.6 branch: https://codex.wordpress.org/Version_4.6.2

of course. I should have thought about it.
Seeing a post on the blog about 4.7.1 but not 4.6.2 threw me off track….

In the case of a purely security release, all patches should be created well ahead of time. Different patches may be necessary for trunk and stable branches. Currently, we make an effort to back port patches to all versions of WordPress that support autoupdates (3.7+). However, back porting patches is not always possible and those versions of WordPress are not officially supported as a result.
