Existing website with some pages with galleries on them using the built in gallery feature. After upgrading to 3.8 when i go to the Edit Page of page with a gallery, the big gallery gray box that used to be there in the edit window is now not there. If I go to Add Media I can create a new gallery, but don’t see the existing one. If I go to Text mode it shows [gallery link="file"] and the page does show the pictures if viewed in the normal website.

  • I’m seeing the same behavior. Surprised there is not a lot of noise around this one. Pretty major bug (or perhaps it is a new “feature”).

    I’m using Thesis 2.1.4.

    2011 Theme – PARTIAL SUCCESS
If I set my theme to 2011 and edit a page with an existing WP Gallery, I see a small faint outline of a box in the visual editor. If I hover over the small box I see the Gallery edit controls.

    2014 Theme – FAIL
If I set my theme to 2014 and edit a page with an existing WP Gallery, I DON’T see any obvious sign of my WP Gallery in the visual editor. However, if I place my cursor in the visual editor and scroll down to where my WP Gallery should be, using the arrow keys, the status bar at the bottom of the visual editor indicates “p>>img.wp-gallery”. So, I suspect this is a CSS issue, possible caused by a plug-in. So, begins the process of deactivating plug-ins to see which one.

    2013 Theme – FAIL same as 2014
    2012 Theme – FAIL same as 2014
    2010 Theme – FAIL same as 2014

Emptied caches and forced a page refresh and now it works. Go figure.
