WordPress 3.5, user roles and access to WP Admin

  • Last week I updated one of the websites I’m working on that makes use of BuddyPress to create a kind of intranet. I use the User Role Editor plugin to manage the various roles that are needed and to my surprise I noticed that one of the roles that was previously was able to add users, now got redirected to the frontpage whenever the Add -> User option was selected in the WP toolbar. This also happened when trying to access the dashboard.

After some research I figured out that the permission that was causing this weird behavior is edit_others_posts. I then looked around to see if anything had changed since upgrading when it comes to this permission, but I can’t seem to find anything that ressembles my problem.

Does anyone know how this is possible? Enabling the permission is only a temp fix in my case, for this particular user isn’t allowed to edit comments.
