Hi, The built in media tool, which is the little square with a little gray box in the middle...next to "Upload/Insert" ...

  5. Okay. Try it on a different browser for one (like Chrome).

Failing that, try a manual upgrade .

thanks for your reply, my main browser is Chrome, I've tried that on Safari, IE and Firefox (yah, I got them all installed), but it still didn't work.

how do you manual upgrade? what's the different? thanks

A manual upgrade means you'd have to download the latest version and upload the files directly to your server. You upload all files except the wp-content folder.

You might want to try disabling all your plugins and revert to the default theme (twenty ten) before doing that.

If uploads work after that, it might be an incompatible plugin / theme. Activate your plugins one by one to single out the one giving you problems.

It doesn't work for me neather. I am able to upload pictures when I go to the media section. The problem is that the popup that should open when clicking upload picture when adding a new post doesn't work.

I am having the same issue. I can go through the motions of uploading a pic, but after it says "Crunching..." the photo is never displayed and it is not in the media library. I can't get it to work in either the direct Media Library, or using the button in WYSIWYG.

It seems like this is not a problem with a single installation and something WordPress support should focus their energy on. WordPress with no possibility to attach photos is quite useless.

I was facing the same issue and then figured out that the problem was due to a plugin called wp-smushit and after deactivating that uploading starts working as normal

I think a lot of plugin causes errors with WP 3.1 WP 3.1 uses more or other Javascript then before so that could be the problem :)
i think all plugins will be updated to 3.1 compaitable soon enough.
Maybe a nice tip before next time make a backup if it doenst work an dit works without the plugins turned on, wait with the wordpress update until there are updates for your plugins too (At least for the plugins which causses errors)
