I have a personal site, tracibrigham.com, that was a static html site. I created a subdomain, canadiancitizenship.tracibrigham.com, which I have yet to complete developing. My placeholder page has two background images, one on the body, the other on the header. (Again, solely html.)

I have redesigned the domain and am running it on WordPress. My subdomain placeholder is still visible, but now the images won’t appear. Web developer toolbar reveals that the paths are broken when they aren’t.

Can adding WordPress to the domain affect my subdomain? I don’t want the subdomain to run on WordPress. My WordPress folder is in a subfolder in my main directory, so I don’t see why the subdomain would be affected. If it can’t be affected by WP, I’ll know to search for non-WP issues.

Okay, in case anyone with the same problem is reading this, here is what happened.

The problem wasn’t WordPress at all; it was a setting that I had changed on my host’s server. Whenever I install WordPress, I go through a series of steps that increases security. I’ve gotten into the habit of also tweaking settings through CPanel after I’m done with WordPress. I had enabled hotlink protection, which prevented my subdomains from linking to images stored in my root site’s folders. I disabled the hotlink protection, and the problem was instantly solved.
