• At times when I save a post, the page editor disappears and I can only view what has been written out in HTML. However, once the VISUAL button is pressed I can no longer access the editor unless the page is refreshed. Also pressing the HTML button again does not work either. I simply cannot see the post.

The only way to get the HTML back is to refresh the page, yet this still doesn’t allow me access the Visual Editor. The only option is to delete the post and copy the HTML into a fresh page and resubmit it.

Also all the previous saved posts are not accessible.

This is the 2nd time this has now happened since upgrading to WP 2.7. It does this after pressing the SAVE post button.

WordPress was upgraded using INSTANT UPGRADE plugin.

I hope there is a fix for this. Thanks.

The latest WordPress update seems to have fixed the bug.

This has just started happening to me a moment ago. I have tried just about everything.

The odd thing is that it works perfectly fine when creating a new post. Editing posts/pages is the only time it breaks.

The js has to be broken or something, but I even deleted the tinymce folder and uploaded it again, but to no avail.

If someone has a true solution to this, I would love to hear it. Thankfully I can still create new posts in the visual editor.

I have since noticed that the error only occurs when I edit pages. Editing posts works fine.

    Lowlight,

Even with the latest WordPress, the error seems to have re-surfaced. I went back to re-edit a post that has already been published, pressed SAVE and the Visual Editor vanished, and I can’t seem to get it back.

All my REVISIONS have also disappeared from that post and can no longer be accessed.

    I am running WordPress 2.7.1

Initially when I upgraded from 2.7 the problem vanished, however it has now become another frustrating aspect of using WordPress 🙁

I sincerely hope that a solution can be found.

I’m having the same issues to. It is a Javascript issue as natarem suggested. I threw in my old JS files with the new & it seems to address some of the issue but not all. I am going to try another complete re-install as he suggested:

    http://www.natarem.com/2008/12/17/wordpress-27-visual-editor-problems/

Let me know if you’ve discovered a cure for the problem

Here’s the deal – it’s something to do with the extraction. In the zipped file, all the files listed on Natarem’s page are in there, but when I extract it, they don’t come out. I tried manually doing it, but no dice. Not sure what the deal is …

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES! I think I solved my issue. For some reason my computer was not extracting all the files from the WP zip file. I simply uploaded those on to a flash drive & used another computer to extract & upload. Looks like the issues is resolved. Thanks again!

Easiest way to solve problem is to Create new WP User and then all work fine 🙂

Ok, I did an update, then a complete install.
I flushed everything but my underwear out of the cache of both browsers on my Xp machine, and the F-Fox browser on my Linux machine.

I added the TinyMCE advanced plugin, activated, it, deactivated it,

I then went and d’loaded the latest version of the std. tinyMCE (3.2.2.3 it said) and installed that.

I reverted to the plain ol’ default skin while I did all this.

I have no clue what a “Kimilli flash plugin” is, but I ain’t got it.

I created a new user, checked, then unchecked the visual editor for this user. Tried logging off then back on with it.

No buttons, no toolbar, just a pair of tabs marked “Visual”, and “HTML”, which don’t do anything.
The blog is on a linux server running php Version 4.4.9, and the editor worked fine on the ancient version of WordPress I was using before.

At this point, I am just gonna go away scratching my head, and wait for my smarts to backfill, a bit.

Meanwhile, I sure am glad I can do 95% of my blog writing in either Christopher Finke’s Scribfire, or Michael B’s “Text Formatting Toolbar” plug-in for FireFox.

Other than that, gotta say Wp 2.7 has been very nice to me, thanks.

    Fred

It was the damn Kimilli flash plugin!!!!!!
I tried ALL the other stuff and it ended up being that bugger.

Flash plugins, especially those ones for video playback are the ones messing with TinyMCE.
