• Ever since I upgraded to wordpress 2.0.5, along with all my plugins (list at the end of the post) word press keeps wanting to change from the theme I set it as (Blanco) to the default. It does this at what appears to be randomly. The database seems fine after looking through it. I even restored it to a back up point and it still does this. I thought maybe by removing $HOME/public_html/wp-content/themes/default it would stop doing this but once it does that it shows nothing because there is no theme. I have to set it back to the theme that I modified in order to make my page look right.

Here’s a list of my activated plugins:
    about me 0.98 widget
    bad behavior (latest)
    front page login (widget)
    google search widget
    IM Online widget
    popularity contest (by alex king)
    side bar widgets
wpg2 and it’s image block widgets

I updated the theme to have widgets when I upgraded from 2.0.1 to 2.0.5. Currently running on Free BSD (stable) with apache 1.33 and php 5.1.

It’s really starting to boggle my mind as to why wordpress doesn’t want to keep it’s theme.

  • I believe I read somewhere that this happens when your theme (not the default theme) is trying some illegal operation.

I too am experincing the same problem – I use Glued Ideas Subtle theme and it has been acting up for the past 2 days.

I ended up deleting all themese from the directory leaving the CMS no choice but to remain on the preferred theme

Do you have only one wordpress install using your database? Sometimes, if you have two wp installs accessing one database (I do this sometimes while testing theme designs), the “flash to default” happens. The fix is simply to use only one wp install to one database….

Nope I have only one blog to a database, I tried to delete ALL themes in the directory leaving the ONLY preferred theme. What ended up happening was that the entire blog got knocked off when I looked at the Presentations tab – it did not show any theme being installed.

I had to scramble to upload a backup of the default theme and hence now I have two themes and the problem keeps hitting me. Any solutions? could it be due to a theme error, I have this theme installed without any modifications for over 2 months, and even upgraded to 2.0.5 barely 20 odd days before. So technically its been running without a problem for 20 days until recently.

Have you installed the 2.0.5 fixit plugin? See thread here: http://markjaquith.wordpress.com/2006/10/28/some-wordpress-205-users-reporting-server-500-error/#comment-5826

There’s a download link on Mark’s site as well.

I have probably come up with a solution, it seems that WP-Mobile plug-in designed by Alex King somehow conflicts with the installation, simply disabling the plug-in makes all the headaches go away.

Credit for the solution Scott Burkett – http://www.scottburkett.com/index.php/misc/2006-11-15/wordpress-theme-resetting-problem-solved.html

Don’t disable the plugin, properly install it. You have to put the wp-mobile theme in the themes directory, not leave it in the plugin folder. I did the same thing. Guilty of not reading the direction…again.
