    Hi there
I have a strange issue where WordFence is scanning more comments than I have

Scan Complete. Scanned 16248 files, 35 plugins, 3 themes, 93 posts, 453295 comments and 40959 URLs in 16 minutes 20 seconds.

In the comments section I have 3 comments?

Can anyone explain why WordFence found 453 292 more comments than I have?

    Hi @thyran,

Many plugins use the default WordPress posts and comments database tables to store data so if you have an online store or forum (as two common examples) they will increase your storage in these tables for products and threads. Other plugins for different functions and uses will be doing this too and are the likely cause for the increased number of records you’re seeing in these tables.

You can also check the wp_comments table manually in PHPMyAdmin or whichever tool(s) your hosting provider gives you to check database contents to see what kind of data is being stored there. I do not recommend manually deleting anything during this process in case something stops working properly on your site, or at least first performing a full backup that can be restored should anything go wrong.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

    Hi Peter
Thank you I now realise these comments are not literal WordPress comments but the comments table in the database.
We do have a WooCommerce store with a high number of daily transactions so I guess this table is large for a purpose.
I have had a look at the table and rows and it appears the information is legitimate.
Thank you for your time and clarity on the matter.
    It is appreciated.
