First, uncheck scan options you probably don’t need. Second, use the manual scheduling, see the “Scan Schedule” in the menu. I set mine to scan once a week, at night on weekend when I have the least server traffic. I set my sites to scan at different times so they don’t overlap on using resources.
In my opinion, the Wordfence scan if run too often is way more trouble than it is worth. Better to put energy into multiple redundant backup systems and proactive defenses. The idea is to not get hacked, rather than sitting there looking at a scan that tells you’ve been hacked, then wondering what to do about it…

I was hoping to keep all the scans in place and haven’t changed any of the settings the plugin was shipped with.
Unfortunately the websites in this case do not use the premium version so I cannot schedule scans for them. It would be cool if they could all pick random times so there was no overlap which seems to be happening. Also the individual sites seems to be running more than one scan time at the same time.
Well, it sounds like either buy more server bandwidth, or buy Wordfence Premium, or both? Or…play around with scan settings… for example, I work with a blog that has more than 90,000 comments, do I need to scan those over and over and over again, especially since my site is well defended from spam? Clearly, not. Or, scan for Heartbleed? Clearly not necessary. MTN

The server has 2 cores and 4GB of RAM and unlimited bandwidth. Unfortunately there isn’t the budget to buy the premium plugin for the 12 sites that is on this server. None of the sites have any comments and do not have much content on them. They also have low traffic to them.
