I was just reading about the recent brute force attacks and got me thinking I don’t have wordfence activated on my dev/template site. For the reason that i use the site as a template and clone it. My concern was if I had wordfence turned on then I clone, that it would mess with wordfence on each cloned site in that it would have information relating to the template site. Can I safely turn wordfence on for our template site?

  • Yes, you can, but when it comes to “migrating” or cloning, it’s highly recommended to “Remove Extended Protection” from the firewall first, otherwise you will need to manually modify some files paths in “.htaccess” or “.user.ini” (depending on the server configuration) to match your new site directories/paths.

    Thanks.
