Wordfence not working behind Nginx proxy

    We are testing one WordPress website (Nginx) behind a Nginx proxy. Website works with Wordfence (6.1.10) but backoffice doesn’t. We can login but the request ends in 504 Gateway Time-out after about a minute.

    After reading the docs we have _SERVER[“REMOTE_ADDR”], _SERVER[“HTTP_X_REAL_IP”] and _SERVER[“HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR”] all giving the real ip address of visitor.

    If we disable Wordfence we can login to the backoffice without any problems.

    Possible bump here. I work at a community college and manage blogs for several departments on campus. On three separate sites now I have had to abandon Wordfence because Wordfence spawns a zillion PHP threads which cause 504 Gateway Time-out messages. As soon as I FTP in and disable Wordfence, the sites come up.

    Odder still is that Wordfence is working flawlessly on our blog network. Same network, same setup, just a different box.

    Sounds like a different issue than above, but same 504 Gateway Time-out in the end. Maybe this helps troubleshoot?
