• Hi

This is a message from my hosting company who have been trying to help me get wordfence working on my web site:

    Hello Mike,

    Thank you for contacting support.

Can you elaborate on exactly how Wordfence makes the outgoing connection? I’ve tried pinging out to noc1.wordfence.com and I received a response from the recipient server, so the connection should work.

We do have some security features in place that may be preventing the connection from being made, but knowing exactly how the connection is being made will allow us to better determine what may be causing this to fail.

    Thanks,
    Josh

Perhaps you could help as my ability in these areas is very limited.

    Regards

    Mike

  • Hi Mike,

Your server needs to be able to establish a connection with noc1.wordfence.com on ports 443 and 80.

See if your hosting company can establish a connection to those two ports from your server. You could forward them this URL to help explain.

    Thanks!

    Hi Brian

Have forwarded your info to host, which they reported back saying they have done that and it connects fine at their end. But for some reason it keeps giving me this message:

Wordfence could not get an API key from the Wordfence scanning servers when it activated. You can try to fix this by going to the Wordfence “options” page and hitting “Save Changes”. This will cause Wordfence to retry fetching an API key for you. If you keep seeing this error it usually means your WordPress server can’t connect to our scanning servers. You can try asking your WordPress host to allow your WordPress server to connect to noc1.wordfence.com.

Do the options save when you do that? There is a debugging mode that you can check which will give more detail in the activity log (on scan page). Also it might be helpful if you went to the bottom of the options page and ran a connectivity check and looked at the database tables (link close to the previous one) to see if any need repairs.
