Wordfence kills wp-cron

    I have a few WP installs running wordfence. On one of them Wordfence kills the wp-cron system. I have no idea why or how, all I know is that deactivating wordfence gets back up the wp-cron.

    Wp-cron is important for me as it triggers the sites back up system (currently using updraft).

    Hi,

    We aren’t receiving other reports of this so the underlying cause is likely to be something else.

    Can you send me your Wordfence diagnostics report please as this will give me detailed information about your WordPress installation. If you have the latest version of Wordfence installed, go to the top of the “Diagnostics” tab on the Wordfence “Tools” page. There will be a “SEND REPORT BY EMAIL” button to send the diagnostics report. Enter phil [@] wordfence [dot] com as the email and your forum user name.

    Once you have emailed me the diagnostics report can you reply to this thread to let me know that it has been sent. This is important in the unlikely event that your installation of WordPress is having an issue with sending mail.

    I found the answer elsewhere. It seems wordfence was blocking the hosting server itself and therefore cron jobs weren’t being run.

    Hi @gcgspain,

    Could you explain how you got WordFence to stop blocking the hosting server? I seem to have an issue that could be caused by this behavior.

    Hi Michel,

    You need to find out your servers IP and unblock it on wordfence. It is better if you ask your provider or CDN if you are using one.

    An alternative but RISKIER METHOD: Generally your servers IP will be the one most blocked (NOT ALWAYS THE CASE), but if you want to quick solve it and not wait for your hosting provider reply, unblock that IP and see if you get wp-cron back, if not block it and try the next IP, etc…
