Wordfence is slowing down site and admin

    After many years of trouble free wordfence install, a site began to slow down and then pretty much stop.

    I narrowed the issue down to plugins by renaming the plugin folder and then adding my 18 plugins back one at a time, it looks like the baddie is wordfence. The site works fine without it, but when I do a complete deletion of the plugin (via FTP) and then reinstall it, the activation of the plugin slows things down abruptly. I have tried activating wordfence with the remaining plugins deactivated but it makes no difference.

    I am running PHP 7.4 and the latest versions of WP and the other plugins.

    I will be grateful for any input as it is impossible to do anything in the admin with Wordfence running

    Hi @steveb123 thanks for reaching out to us about this one.

    While Wordfence is active, it is certainly worth checking the PHP error logs on your server and letting me know if there are lines being logged during that time that are clearly Wordfence-related.

    Can you also drop us a diagnostic report to wftest @ wordfence . com? You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

    I was also seeing this issue on my 4 websites. Deactivating Wordfence solved the problem. I have had to revert to using another security plugin.

    It appears to be resolved!

    I uninstalled and reinstalled the plugin 3 times in total and it just worked (as it has done for many years)!!

    The site is running ar normal speed, there are no issues in the diagnostics.
