Support » Plugin: Wordfence Security - Firewall & Malware Scan » WordFence automatically scans on install

Installing WordFence makes it automatically scan, and send it’s results to the administrator. However as i manage these websites, i’d like to receive the results instead.

Is there a way to, or cancel the first scan so i can change the e-mail adres, or change the e-mail adres before WordFence starts scanning? Thanks in advance! 🙂

  • Hey @atmaarten,

You can cancel the scan in Wordfence > Scan.

Then you can set the email to the one you’d prefer in Wordfence > All Options > Wordfence General Options.

Please let me know if this helps.

    Hey @wfgerald

    Thanks for the reply!

The quick scan seems to be done in about 10-15sec. Does this mean that after we install the plugin we should disable the scan in 10-15sec or else the e-mail gets send?

    Is there maybe another way to change the e-mail adres at the start? For example in wp-config or in child theme functions? For example: DEFINE(‘wordfenceNotify’,;

    Hey @atmaarten,

Unfortunately, there isn’t a constant for this, but I can file a feature request for it.

I’m not sure if this is an option for you, and it’s not ideal, but a workaround could be to temporarily change the admin email before activating Wordfence, make the changes in Wordfence, then reset the WordPress admin email to its original. Would this work for you?

    Hi @wfgerald ,

Thanks a lot for the quick response. I’d love to file this as a feature request, as it is not possible for us to change all the admin e-mail adresses of our websites. 🙁

    Thanks a lot,

    Hi @atmaarten,

It’s definitely something we can discuss with the team. I understand why they choose to make it automatically scan upon install, but it also would be bothersome to have it send results to the wrong person.

    Hi @wfdave

That’d be amazing. Can i follow the feature request on GitHub?

    Hey @atmaarten,

Dave and I were speaking with the Team about this.

When you first install Wordfence it prompts you to enter an email address. This is the email address the notifications are sent to. When you install Wordfence can you try entering the email you’d like the notifications to be sent to? If you’d like to adjust it you can do so afterward in Wordfence > All Options > Wordfence General Options. The notifications do not default to the WordPress admin, but rather the email entered when first installing it.

Please let us know how it goes.

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’ve gone ahead and marked this thread as resolved.

Please feel free to open another thread if you’re still having issues with Wordfence.
