WooCommerce Rest API Question

  • Is there anyone that would be kind enough to try to explain what Rest API is all about. I have read the documentation at http://docs.woothemes.com/document/woocommerce-rest-api/ and took a look at GitHub but it’s still unclear for me what can I use it for 🙁

Basically if someone could answer those questions for me:

    • What’s the purpose and what can we do with it?
    • Is it best to have it enabled always, or is it pointless to enable for let’s say, a shop that is selling paper bags?
    • Does it allow/help with stuff like for example stock levels synchronisation with physical shop stock control systems?

    Thanks in advance 🙂

  • The woo rest api is read-only, so its usefulness is very limited. You could use it to update your stock levels with your physical shop stock controls, but you wouldn’t be able to go the other way.

If you’re not actively using it, then there’s no point in having it enabled.

If they ever decide to make it capable of writing to the system, it would be immensely useful, but as is, it’s really only good for reporting.

@bhearick Ok, thank you kindly for this clarification 🙂
