woocommerce layered nav widget returning out of stock products

I haven’t tested this, but it seems they came up with a solution or workaround on stackexchange:

It should be noted that “it will not be very performant on larger catalogues, but it technically works” – which might be the reason why this is not part of the WooCommere core…

Totally agree on that, have also voted up the idea on Woothemes Idea board. The solution in the above link doesn´t work in latest Woo-Commerce. Any other suggestion on solution?
