Support » Plugin: Disable Emails » WooCommerce Emails – Migration/Development Site

  • Resolved zackeryfretty

I’m currently in the process of manually (aka painfully) moving over a bunch of orders from our current system that doesn’t have an export functionality. This means I am manually creating the users, importing them, and recreating their orders in WooCommerce.

I obviously don’t want them to get any emails at all about this since I’m adding a few years of orders into the backlog.

I want to confirm that when I have this plugin on it will..

    1. Disable ALL WooCommerce + New User notifications
    2. NOT send everything as soon as I deactivate it (meaning it doesn’t build a log or anything, correct? The emails are gone forever?)
    3. Removing the plugin will allow me to continue using WooCommerce as per the normal, as as soon as I have the users imported into my development site I want to push it live, remove this plugin, and carry on using this as the new order system.

    Thank you so much!

    G’day zackeryfretty,

Yes, emails from WordPress are disabled, with these conditions:

    * emails are sent via the standard WordPress email functions
    * there isn’t a SMTP or other email gateway plugin getting in the way

WooCommerce uses the standard WordPress email functions, so all is good on that front. Just make sure you haven’t set up an email gateway plugin (SMTP, Amazon SES, Sparkpost, SendGrid, Mailgun, etc).

You might also want to add an email logger to see what would have been sent, and to confirm for yourself that emails truly are disabled by running a couple of dummies through first.

Nothing extra installed SMTP-wise! I just did a few test imports (using your email log plugin) and nothing at all has shown through – so – I assume we’re golden there.

    Here’s my last concern….

When I disable “Disable Emails” it won’t all of a sudden send all those stopped emails, correct? They’re GONE forever? I don’t want anyone to ever get them. 😊

Yes, nothing is stored so nothing comes back. It works by replacing the regular mail component with a dummy that acts like it’s doing the job but doesn’t really do anything, much like an Australian politician.

    Happy migrating!
