Support » Plugin: WooCommerce » Woocommerce composite products scenarios not working

Working on a clients website: Product (a motherboard) shows up as empty space in the motherboard selector: When I added scenarios for that motherboard (in the composite product backend) the motherboard then showed up but was compatible with all products not just the ones I selected.

When I restored the website to a version that worked (after trying to fix it by deactivating and reinstalling composite products) I then tried to add the motherboard again. This time it only selected a couple extra processors. I made duplicates of those processors and deleted the originals, however when I tried removing one of the compatible processors all processors started showing up again. I tried deleting and reinstalling both woocommerce and composite products again and did not help. Very strange. I cannot find this problem online anywhere. I get no errors in php logs. Please advise on how to proceed. Should I just make a new install of wordpress and copy the products over? and reinstall all the plugins? I currently restored the site back to the way it was when the blank spot was showing up in motherboards, but I am still trying to fix it so it may change again. Here is what is installed currently (some of these are not activated)

  • Woocommerce Composite Products is a paid plugin and you should seek support at

I didn’t pay for it. It can be downloaded for free at since it is open source software and the source code must be made available. (at least that is my understanding) (also I wasn’t the one who setup the plugin originally)
However, I went to woocommerce’s site and tried to get support:
“Please note that this account is a non-paying customer, so support is limited to the options found on the left.

If you have purchased a product from us, please log in under the purchasing account. Otherwise please purchase an item to gain access.”

There is no option for support for composite products, just free extensions.

I am not sure about the legal status of that website and its claims, but essentially you are using pirated software. Best option for you: buy it and get official support. The same goes for every other plugin that was pirated.

It would be unsafe in my view to obtain code through third parties as it could have been modified with a back-door to enable malicious access to your site or server space.

Nevertheless, this forum is for support of the core WooCommerce plugin only. For support of commercial plugins you’ll need to purchase a licence.

Thanks for the info guys. I’m curious now, can anyone point me to the license for the original composite products plugin? I have not been able to find it. I know some people sell gpl software even though you can download the source code, and since the license that came with the composite products plugin I downloaded says GPLv3 I always assumed it was legal (wouldn’t have used gpldl otherwise)

the only thing I found was this from here:
“A license entitles you to 1 year of updates and support. Each installation of the plugin will require a license key in order for you to receive updates and support.”
It says nothing about the software itself being charged for, just support from the original developers and automatic updates.

UPDATE: it says the same thing here: so on the surface it looks like is legal to me, let me know if you have evidence to the contrary.

My understanding is that it is indeed legal to download and use GPL licensed code. However, the use of the vendor’s css, graphics or trade names may not be, depending on what you read.

Nevertheless, downloading from other than the developer’s channels would not bring support or update notices and maybe unsafe. What would be the cost to your business of downtime and tech support cleaning up after malicious code? Also, it deprives developers of income for their effort and so deters future development and maintenance.

I have checked several plugins purchased from Woothemes that I have and none of them has declarations of being GPL (or MIT or anything else free-to-distribute) licensed. As for “open source”, of course all PHP software is literally “open-source” since PHP is an interpreted language, but that does not make it open source in legal terms.

GPL is standard for plugins and themes, distributed via WordPress repository (that you can download from the admin dashboard) and supported here at, but as much as I know, most of commercial WP software nowadays, like from Envato or Themeforest, is not GPL. If plugin has free and extended paid versions, the code of the free is GPL but the extra code of the paid is not necessarily so (most likely not).
