woocommerce checkout error message “Illegal mix of collations”

    At shop.standardlegal.com, we’re suddenly getting an error message that is preventing checkout while using WooCommerce 5.1.0 on WP 5.7:

    SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 1267 Illegal mix of collations (utf8mb4_unicode_520_ci,IMPLICIT) and (utf8mb4_unicode_ci,IMPLICIT) for operation ‘=’

    A customer pointed it out to us, and I tested and received the same error message when trying to checkout. The error appears in trying Paypal Pro with a credit card and trying to access Paypal Standard to pay at Paypal.

    We are using the most up-to-date version of all plugins, so I’m stuck. Any ideas? Thank you!

    This is an issue related to the latest release of MailPoet 3 (version 3.60.6).

    We’re already working on a fix for it and will release the fix today.

    For now, you may want to roll back to an older version of the plugin – MailPoet 3.60.4. You can download it here: https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/mailpoet.3.60.4.zip

    Does the update I received today (8th April 2021) now fix this issue?
