Support » Plugin: WooCommerce » WooCommerce assigns “Customer” role although setting is “Subscriber”

    Hi,
I have a (two) problems on my new page. I noticed that signed in users cannot access the main page (redirect in circles) but I also noticed, that this only applies to “customers” not to “subscriber”. So my first thought: Just assign new user the role “subscriber” but for whatever reason, WooCommerce still assigns (on checkout) the role “customer”.
I would be grateful for any tip, how to fix at least the later problem.
    Thanks.

    Hi there đź‘‹

This kind of problem is usually caused by a conflict with your theme or with another plugin.

The best way to determine this is to:

    • Temporarily switch your theme to Storefront
    • Disable all plugins except for WooCommerce
    • Repeat the action that is causing the problem

If you’re not seeing the same problem after completing the conflict test, then you know the problem was with the plugins and/or theme you deactivated. To figure out which plugin is causing the problem, reactivate your other plugins one by one, testing after each, until you find the one causing conflict. You can find a more detailed explanation on how to do a conflict test here.

    Before you start

First, please make sure you have a good backup in place of your full site and database. Most hosting companies have this included in the subscription, but you could also consider using a service like Jetpack. If something goes wrong, it’s nice to know that you can restore your site.

Second, I would suggest installing a plugin called Health Check & Troubleshooting. This is a plugin developed by the WordPress community and it allows you to disable plugins without affecting your current site visitors.

    Cheers.

    Hi,
    I checked everything:
Problem a – redirecting in circles, when logged in as “customer”: Found the plugIn causing it.
Problem b (which is not a big problem now anymore – but still annoying) – WooCommerce creates users as “customers” although the default is “subscriber”: With the Storefront theme and all plugins but Woo-Commerce deactivated it still happened.

Glad to know that Problem A, is solved now 🙂

Problem b (which is not a big problem now anymore – but still annoying) – WooCommerce creates users as “customers” although the default is “subscriber”: With the Storefront theme and all plugins but Woo-Commerce deactivated it still happened.

By default, WooCommerce assigns the customer role automatically when users create an account on your site. However, if you would like to change this, please check this excellent article that will guide you on how to modify this behavior:

    I hope that helps1 🙂

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.
