    What did the permissions error say?
    In what way did the site “crash”?
    What were you doing at the time?

    It said something along the lines of ‘permission denied’. It was very quick and the site went down completely. I couldn’t even log into wp-admin, just a blank screen.

    I was changing one word in woocommerce.pot file from ‘cart’ to ‘basket’.

    I can’t account for how my plugin could cause such a catastrophic problem. Certainly not based on any information provided here.

    Loco Translate would give a “Permission denied” error if the logged in use doesn’t have the manage_options capability. It will only do this on one of its own screens, and this won’t prevent a user logging in or result in a blank screen.

    Is your blank screen still persisting? If so, it is likely a fatal PHP error, so I suggest you check your error log file or enable PHP’s display_errors in order to see what the error is.

    Hi Tim

    Thanks for getting back to me. I just remembered I have a chat transcript of the conversation with the hosting provider.

    The message was actually ‘access forbidden’

    This is some of what was said;

    ‘It appears that your site is currently online, but our firewall has blocked for ip address for hitting mod security errors. I have removed the block on your ip and you should now be able to access the site’

    ‘Sometimes when certain changes are made, it can set off a false positive and the system thinks someone is hacking the account. If the problem persists we may be able to set up an exception for your ip.’

    They also provided this on the chat; ‘340748 Atomicorp.com UNSUPPORTED DELAYED Rules: Generic Path Recursion denied’

    I haven’t tried the same thing again as it may trigger the problem. I am going to get some custom CSS written to change some wording instead.

    Hope this helps, I think it’s more to do with the server than the plugin but it’s something to keep in mind for other users too.

    “mod_sec” is known to cause problems. I doubt your hosting provider will disable it, so I can only suggest you ask them to configure it to your needs. (allowing whatever it is currently denying when you use the Loco plugin)
