woo database won’t update

Hi, I am having troubles with Woocommerce. The database will not update and orders cannot be processed.

+ Fatal error in Woo log, see below.
+ Scheduled actions does not show correct information and error: pls see: https://prnt.sc/V8pfA4OiVIwnThis website was moved to another hoster a few months ago. (Siteground =>Cloud86).

I have trouble shooted by deactivating all plugins but Woocommerce and by going back to a standard wp theme, but there was no difference.

Via Plesk server I also checked & repaired database.

I checked the error logs and noticed a critical error: Allowed memory size exhausted. This typically occurs when the available PHP memory has been fully used.

To help confirm the cause, could you please check if the error still occurs with all plugins deactivated (including WooCommerce) and the theme switched to Twenty Twenty-Five?

In the meantime, I recommend reaching out to your hosting provider and asking them to increase the PHP memory limit. This should help resolve the memory exhaustion issue.

Hello Thanks for your quick reply.

I have disabled all plugins again and activated twenty twenty-five theme.
The PHP memory limit is set to 512 which is the max allowed.

The database still won’t update and the action scheduler log still doesn’t seem right (‘action ignored’ is what I see many times).

The error you’re seeing indicates that your site has exceeded the allocated 512MB of memory, which is why you’re encountering this issue.

Could you please try increasing the memory limit and then attempt the database update again? If your hosting plan doesn’t allow increasing the memory beyond 512MB, I recommend contacting your hosting provider to check what is consuming the most memory and whether they can assist in temporarily increasing the limit.

Also, could you please try manually updating the plugin and see if that helps resolve the issue?
1. Go to your WP database and locate thewp_wc_admin_notes table.
2. Look for any entries related to the database update and check if the status is set to Pending.
3. If so, you can manually change the status to Actioned to see if this resolves the issue.

Hello @eigenwijsheid you’re most likely encountering a huge DB query or some kind of rogue loop.

What’s telling me this? These two:
```
// This one

 WooCommerce logger trying to log the error (class-woocommerce. php line 414)
```
If you’re versed in CLI you can run some commands to get to the root cause.

ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR DB

This will show you recent logs
```
wp option get woocommerce_log_viewer_last_10g
```
This will help you find the runaway query
```
wp db query "SHOW FULL PROCESSLIST;"
```
Were you trying to perform some kind of export, sync or something? If not then a CRON was probably stuck.

@serafinnyc I think you may very well be right, but my database knowledge is insufficient to solve it. I did not perform an export or sync.
This site was transferred to another host in March of this year. Maybe something’s gone wrong there, I don’t know, it was done for me.

The hoster has changed the wp memory limit to 768MB
I have updated the Woo plugin to the latest version, but this made no difference.

Updating the database via Tools still doesn’t work.
I looked in the database, but I can’t change anything. It looks different than your screenshot: https://prnt.sc/nAHFLWNITDE0. I read that this has to do with no primary key being assigned to a table, but i do not dare to tinker with it.

What if I delete & reinstall Woocommerce, could that help? I wouldn’t lose all settings and products, right?

Hey @eigenwijsheid – you don’t need to delete WooCommerce and add it back. You wouldn’t lose any settings as long as the database tables are kept, but that’s not really the issue here. Sometimes reinstalling helps, but this doesn’t seem like one of those cases.

This is a database issue.

Since you’re not using CLI and the update isn’t completing, your best move is to contact your host. Ask them to check:
• If the WooCommerce Action Scheduler is stuck, and
• If any memory errors are preventing the database update from finishing.

They should be able to spot and fix it on their end.

You’re definitely on the right track, and I can see you’ve already tried many solid steps.

Like @serafinnyc mentioned, this is looking more and more like a DB-level issue, not something a reinstall would fix. Since you’ve ruled out plugin/theme conflicts, bumped memory to 768MB, and still seeing no progress in the Action Scheduler or DB updates, the next move is to loop in your host.

Here’s what I’d ask them to check:
- Is the Action Scheduler stuck or crashing mid-process?
- Are there any long-running or repeating queries eating up memory or timing out?
- Can they see any persistent locks or resource issues that could be blocking the update routine?
Also, you don’t need to delete WooCommerce; your data lives in the database, not the plugin folder. But reinstalling wouldn’t help unless the DB and scheduler can actually complete what they’re trying to do, and right now, it looks like something is choking that process.

You’re doing all the right things. Let us know what your host finds, and we can dig deeper together if needed.

This took a long time to get sorted. It turned out the database got corrupted while my new host transfered it from my former hoster. It could not get fixed. I paid my old hoster for a restore and transferred the site myself this week.

If you ever decide to try migrating your site again, I recommend using a plugin like Migrate Guru, which handles the process automatically by pulling your site and database from one host to another—removing the need for manual work.
