Support » Plugin: Automatic Featured Images from Videos » Won’t use the featured image as a share image?

The plugin works perfectly when it comes to displaying the feature image captured from the video on the website, but won’t use that featured image when sharing on social media sites (even with my SEO set to use the Featured Image). Is there a setting I need to alter that I can’t find or are sharing sites unable to detect the dynamically generated featured image from the video?

Are you able to provide an example URL of one that had things set with our plugin? I’m not able to think of any specific reasons why it’d fail, and there’s no setting that we have that is around this topic, as that would just be rude in my opinion. Ideally it should just work.

Thanks for getting back to me so promptly!

Yes, all of the posts on this site have featured images generated with your plugin. As I’ve been testing the social settings with our SEO plugin, the odd thing I’ve noticed is that even with the same settings some of the posts will show a generic image generated by the SEO plugin while others will not generate an image at all but the console showing signs of attempting to retrieve the image from YOUR plugin. Currently, my settings are set to use the Featured Image with a fallback image set if there’s not Featured Image detected.

Please note, I am not totally convinced this issue is being caused by your plugin and I appreciate your willingness to lend assistance. Have you ever noted any conflicts between your plugin and All-in-One SEO in the past?

Perhaps a more pointed question, is there one that’s still struggling to find one with the auto-fetching of data right before sharing?

Our plugin is really low end, and we’re not dynamically setting anything at the point of request. It’s very much upon saving of a post, we attempt to locate and fetch the video URL, get the unique ID, fetch a screenshot from youtube itself, upload to the media library, and set the featured image with that uploaded media item. Once there’s a featured image set, we don’t do anything else. Once you see the screenshot of the video in your featured image box, our job is done.

The real question, now that I recall, is that sometimes Youtube returns their “blank” screenshot placeholder if it doesn’t find a better one.
