I’m trying to get this set up on a site for a client. They have a Mailchimp account that I can log into just fine when I go directly to Mailchimp’s site, but whenever I try to go through the setup for the plugin, the OAuth window says, “Sorry, we couldn’t find an account with that username. Can we help you recover your username?” That username mose definitely exists because I’m currently logged into the account with that usename. Yes, I have double checked to make sure the username and password are spelled correctly. Yes, I have deactivated, deleted, and reinstalled the plugin. Yes, the error persists. Please help.

Hi @urracacreative, that’s an odd one for sure. There’s a couple of things we can look at to kick off troubleshooting.

    1. Caching: If you use a caching service like Cloudflare, add an exclusion path for the Mailchimp for WooCommerce plugin to prevent caching conflicts. Set the exclusion path at the server level by creating a rule for the “URL Path” such as /wp-content/plugins/mailchimp-for-woocommerce/.
    2. Theme/Plugin Conflict: To determine if the issue is related to a theme or plugin conflict, create a staging environment that replicates your live site. Temporarily deactivate other plugins, except for the Mailchimp for WooCommerce plugin and the WooCommerce plugin itself, and switch to a default WordPress theme like Twenty Twenty-One. Test the setup again in this environment and see if the problem persists.
    3. Pop-up Blockers: Check if you have any pop-up blockers enabled in your browser settings. Pop-up blockers can interfere with the display and functionality of certain elements. Disable any pop-up blockers or add exceptions for your website to ensure a smooth experience with the OAuth window.

If I had to guess, I think the theme/plugin conflict is the culprit but let’s check the other two as well. Let us know if you have any luck or continue to have issues.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I turned off caching, created a staging site to test plugin/theme issues, and I don’t have popups blocked in my browswer, but none of those seems to have fixed the issue. 🙁

Hi @urracacreative, thanks for the reply. To confirm your set up while testing to help us understand your environment:

    1. Basic theme (Twenty Twenty One, etc.)
    2. All plugins disabled except Woo & Mailchimp for WooCommerce
    3. Staging site

You’re still getting the error “Sorry, we couldn’t find an account with that username. Can we help you recover your username?” error? If so, can you maybe try another account to ensure there’s not a problem with that particular user in Mailchimp? If that still doesn’t work, who is your hosting provider?

Look forward to hearing back from you.

    Thanks!

Yes, that’s the setup I have for testing. I did try connecting a different Mailchimp account and it worked fine. When I tried connecting this client’s account again, it still did not work. So it definitely looks like an issue with the Mailchimp account. Any suggestions for what setting(s) I might need to adjust in Mailchimp to get this connection to work?

Thanks again for your help. I really appreciate it.

Hi @urracacreative, this is now sounding like a permissions issue with the account in Mailchimp. To connect a WooCommerce store to Mailchimp, the user needs to have the “Manager” user level or above in Mailchimp.

Here at the integration team we’re not the best to troubleshoot those permissions, but you can reach out to our excellent customer support team here to investigate further if you’re not able to get things to connect after checking/updating the permissions.

Please let us know if you need anything else, happy to help.

There is only one user on the account, and shes’s set as the owner. I’m assuming that’s higher than manager? So it doesn’t look like a permissions issue to me.

Hi @urracacreative, I’m with you; that doesn’t seem quite right. It’s probably best to touch base with our customer support team about this. They can take a closer look at the user’s account to check for any unresolved issues, possibly related to compliance or billing. Our integration team focuses more on the technical side of plugin engineering, so we’re the go-to for those kinds of questions. Alternatively, if you’re looking for a quicker solution and since you had success with another account, you might consider starting a fresh Mailchimp account and moving forward with that.
