Support » Plugin: Kirki Customizer Framework » WOFF Files generated in uploads folder

    Hello,

we are using the Kirki with the Unero Minimalist Theme.
It looks like since a few days Kirki generated WOFF files in our wordpress upload folder, almost every 2 seconds a new one. I just deleted 10GB of Woff files.
We didn’t do any major changes on our website. Do you have any idea what might cause the problem?

    I would appreciate any help!

    Regards
    Thomas

  • We are seeing the same issue, filled 30GB space in 2 days.

    Hello @xiano8494 and @boconpro,

Are you both using the “Unero Minimalist Theme”?

I just tested this with 3 themes and so far I can’t replicate the issue you are describing. I can see a single .woff file downloaded for the font-family and no extra files seem to be getting created in the uploads/2019/06 folder as I browse the site.
However, I don’t have access to the theme you’re using since it’s a premium theme. I can’t test what that theme does, and don’t have access to its code to see how they are implementing Kirki and what goes on behind the scenes.

The only thing I can suggest without knowing anything more about your sites would be to simply go to the customizer and make sure you have valid settings for your typography fields.

Have you tried contacting the theme author?
Premium theme authors could login to your site and debug the issues you have, something not allowed on wordpress.org tickets.
Your theme developer should be able to help you.
This seems more like an implementation issue to me or specific to your environment, but if it is indeed an issue with Kirki the theme-developer can share their debug findings with us so can fix it.

This is most likely because WP_DEBUG is set to true in wp-config.php

This will undoubtably be fixed in the next update, but for now you might want to set WP_DEBUG to false to stop the constant downloads.

v3.0.44 is being uploaded right now and includes a fix for this issue.

I’m having the same issue using the KnowAll theme by herothemes. .woff files are being generated in my uploads. Could you provide me any insights?

.woff files are supposed to be generated as Kirki loads Google Fonts locally.

If hundreds or more files are being generated then you will likely need to update the Kirki plugin or ask your theme developer to upgrade their implementation..

Hey, I’m still having the same issue, using Martfury theme

@alirashidy are you using the latest version of the plugin?
Does your theme include an older version of the plugin by any chance?

@aristath Yes, we’re using the latest version of the plugin, and we have tons of .woff files that we can’t get rid of sadly.

    (@aristath)

    Define “a ton”.
For example if your theme has 10 typography fields and they are force-loading all font variants and all languages, then in a scenario where you’re using 10 different fonts, if each one of them has 7 variations and supports 5 languages, then you could be looking at up to 350 files, depending on how the files are formatted, what each font includes etc.

Unfortunately that is a premium theme and I don’t have access to see what it is they’re doing… Have you tried contacting the theme developer?
If the files number is stable and doesn’t increase on each page load then it’s not an issue with Kirki.

    @aristath
By a ton I mean 7752, please check this screenshot: http://prntscr.com/punn27
that’s 2.34GB of files, I deleted them using FTP, but it’s a good idea to report this to you, and of course, I contacted the theme author and reported the issue as well.

I hope that this will fix the issue.

    (@aristath)

    OK… that is a ton.

After you deleted them, do they keep piling up, constantly increasing?

    I told ya! 😀
I’m actually deleting them, 6590 remaining now, I’ll try to reload the site a couple of times after deleting them and check if they will be generated again, also this is uploads/2019/06 folder, I will also check if there’re any other .woff files in the other folders as well.

BTW I tried deleting them using CLI with this line

wp post delete $(wp post list --post_type='attachment' \
        --format=ids --post_parent=0 --post_mime_type='font/woff')

But sadly didn’t work, anyway, when they’re deleted I’ll check again and keep you updated, thanks a million for your quick responses and care.

    @aristath
I can now confirm that they’re being regenerated! I searched 2019 Folder and I found 7816 Files that equals 2.344 GB, I don’t think that this is normal, and I’ll really appreciate it if you can help us.

    This is weird…
If you don’t mind allowing me access to your server please send an email to aristath at gmail dot com
We’ll need to debug this on your server to see what happens since I can’t replicate the issue locally.
