    Hi there

I’ve activated the plugin on my site at https://network23.org/durhamdivest/ and am attempting to set things up using the wizard. When I get as far as trying to upload images, I get this error:

Could not write to file. Please check filesystem permissions. Filename: /home/n23/n23-site/web/wp/wp-content/blogs.dir/738/files/deepdream

We’re using bedrock (roots.io/bedrock) so that file path is incorrect, and it’s no surprise that it fails. The plugin should instead be attempting to write somewhere more like /home/n23/n23-site/web/app/uploads I think.

The plugin version is 3.1.6, here’s the info from gallery/overview:

  • Hi @r3kr4m –
Let’s first check the server settings to make sure you have everything up to date. Reach out to your hosting provider and confirm they have the WordPress.org Requirements settings in place:

    MySQL v5.6 (or higher)
    PHP 7.2 (or higher)

    Memory limit: 250MB (or higher)
    Upload limit: 50MB (or higher)
    Post limit: 50MB (or higher)
    /wp-content directory has sufficient permissions (i.e. 755)

With those in place, everything should work smoothly for you. Keep me posted on your results 🙂

    Hi @mihaiimagely

Thanks for your message. I’ve been working with the hosting provider to make sure that the requirements you mention are in place. So we now have:

    MYSQL Version : 10.1.37-MariaDB-0+deb9u1
    PHP Version : 7.3.2-3+0~20190208150725.31+stretch~1.gbp0912bd
    PHP Memory Limit : 250
PHP Max Upload Size : 50M
PHP Max Post Size : 50M

Regarding “/wp-content directory”, we don’t have that, as I said we’re using bedrock. You might find it useful to have a look at the directory structure here: https://roots.io/bedrock/docs/folder-structure/

However I can confirm, as you’d expect, /web/app/uploads/ is mode 755

But, the error I get is the same as before: “Could not write to file. Please check filesystem permissions. Filename: /home/n23/n23-site/web/wp/wp-content/blogs.dir/738/files/deepdream”

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi again @mihaiimagely

I’m still having the same problems. I’ve captured a snippet of the apache2 error.log output from when I try to update an album:

I hope that’s some help to you in tracking down this bug 🙂

    Hi @r3kr4m

We are asking our development team about this particular structure.
    We’ll write you back.

    Hi @r3kr4m!

We talked with one of our developers, and he uses Bedrock on his development environment.

He advice to set (in “/config/application.php”) the following: define(‘NGG_GALLERY_ROOT_TYPE’, ‘content’); and to change the default gallery path under Other Options to something like /uploads/gallery

    We hope that this helps.
Please, let us know how it goes.

    Thanks @gabyimagely

The change you suggested in /config/application.php has been applied.

However, in ‘other options’ I can’t see any option to change the default gallery path – where do I find this exactly?

Also, I’m now seeing a new error:
Notice: Indirect modification of overloaded property C_Settings_Model::$_errors has no effect in /home/n23/n23-site/web/app/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/validation/package.module.validation.php on line 37

Now when I try to use the wizard, I get as far as step 6 of 17 and get this where the block should be: “This block has encountered an error and cannot be previewed”

The errors in /var/log/apache2/error.log thrown up by this are as follows:

[Wed Feb 27 12:07:01.354748 2019] [php7:warn] [pid 1558] [client 216.66.22.38:53956] PHP Warning: Use of undefined constant \xe2\x80\x98content\xe2\x80\x99 - assumed '\xe2\x80\x98content\xe2\x80\x99' (this will throw an Error in a future version of PHP) in /home/n23/n23-site/config/application.php on line 51, referer: https://network23.org/durhamdivest/wp-admin/post.php?post=88&action=edit

    Hi @r3kr4m

You can find “Other options” under Gallery > Other Options > Where would you like galleries stored?

    Here is a screenshot
    https://screenshots.firefox.com/J5kZqZs5kSNbLoBb/imagelytesting.net

About the issues that you are experiencing, Is it possible for you to disable all your plugins and only test NextGen Gallery to check if the problem persists?

1.- Temporarily deactivate all your plugins except NextGen Gallery.
2.- Is the problem solved? Then, it was caused by one of your plugins. Please check one by one and find the one causing the problem.
3.- If the problem is not solved with the deactivation of the plugins, try changing to a standard WordPress theme, it could be a conflict with your current theme.

    Please, keep us posted.

    Thanks @gabyimagely

That option is not available here. Instead, I see this:
    https://framapic.org/gallery#thWXWAF7glzA/9AhESPe2KUs1.png

Following your advice, I’ve disabled all plugins except NextGen Gallery and switched to the TwentyNineteen theme. This didn’t make any difference.

    What should I try next?

    Mark

    Hi @r3kr4m

    Sorry about the late response.
We recently have released a new version of our plugin.
Could you please take a look and see if that fixes the problem?

If the problem persists, we’d like to take a closer look. We may need to deactivate plugins and switch the theme while troubleshooting temporarily. Would you feel OK with that? If so, please send us a bug report here: http://www.imagely.com/report-bug, refer back to this forum thread and let them know Gaby referred you.

    Thanks!

    Hi @gabyimagely

Thanks for your help – this seems to be working now.

Something I found, which I didn’t see mentioned in the documents anywhere, was that the plugin only works properly when ‘network enabled’ rather than enabled per-site. When it’s network enabled, a new menu appears in the site-wide dashboard, which has an option to change the file path. It would be good to see this documented, or if it is already, sorry I missed it!

    Mark

    Thank you so much!
We have notified our documentation team about it.
