• Greetings and salutations All:

After writing a page, and noting it has been saved, nevertheless, a properly functioning link is not created. Instead, the page appears to get saved as a directory and, although a link is created on the main homepage, it, obviously, does not work. It directs people to a directory and, since the directory is not really there, either gives an ‘invalid site’ type error or does nothing, at all. [see http://www.hybridjargon.com]

Any help-suggestions you may provide would be great appreciated. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

  • I think it may be because your .htaccess file is not writeable. You can check this by looking at Options -> Permalinks . If under the ‘Optional’ heading you see a note saying your .htaccess file is not writeable then you need to change its permissions to make it writeable.

Note this is the .htaccess file in the your blog’s root directory (i.e the same one that contains files such as wp-layout.css) and may be different to the .htaccess file for your website.

You may have to delete and recreate the pages you made earlier to get it working.

There is no problem with the url being a directory. WordPress uses the information it stores in the .htaccess file to redirect the ‘directory’ link to the page.

Hope this helps (it worked for me).

    Mark
