Will WordPress work with Microsoft SQL Server Express?

  • Will WordPress work with Microsoft SQL Server Express? If so, is there a way to set it up?

If not, then does anyone know if free Verio hosting offers MySQL?

No, it’s only designed to work with mysql.

I can’t find details of their free plan. But as their basic paid for plan doesn’t have a database facility, I wouldn’t expect it from a free plan.

I got basic plan for free through our local .NET User Group. Sorry for the confusion.

By the way, I’m not sure which plan I do have, although I do know my plan offers Microsoft SQL Server databases.

You probably have some of their windows hosting. It looks like they offer some database facility (probably mysql) with their linux hosting (2nd option.) You could try contacting them about it.

I am having the same issue. I am trying to get WP setup with a Verio Windows Starter account which has MS SQL Server Express. I contacted Verio’s tech support to ask how to accomplish this task and this was the reply:

“You have a Windows Starter Account, which supports MySQL and PHP. That is all you need to install WordPress. It doesn’t come pre-configured. But you can manually download WordPress and install it on your site. If you go to the WordPress site you will find the download and step by step instructions on how to set it up for your website. – Verio tech support”

What’s up with that? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Good News, for Windows based hosting.
WordPress can be installed now directly from Microsoft Web App Gallery, and it has SQL Server Express support.

I just tried and my install failed. I am not sure this is the case yet. If I am wrong, please tell me how to get the installer to work with SQL express. The installer only gives the MySQL option.

I have just installed MS SQl Express and MS SQL Studio, but cannot figure out where to go next to install WordPress. The server hosting my board will be a win 2K3 server. I have installed IIS, now where do I go. I do not have CPANEL?
