WordPress isn’t the issue (mostly), it’s the computers that are running WordPress. While it’s possible that the servers will fall over if they aren’t updated, it’s hard to believe that it will be a big deal seeing as how we’ve got around 35 years to fix it now.
The issue is from limitations from a 32-bit integer representing Unix date-time, but as 64-bit computing is gaining popularity now, I don’t think that anything will be 32-bit by the time we have to worry about that.
And just remember one thing. If WordPress installations fail because of this, every other system that works on Unix date-time will also fall over.
