    Themes

The following themes have new versions available. Check the ones you want to update and then click “Update Themes”.

Please Note: Any customizations you have made to theme files will be lost. Please consider using child themes for modifications.

    Select All
    Select All
Twenty Eleven You have version 1.2 installed. Update to 1.9.
Twenty Fourteen You have version 1.0 installed. Update to 1.2.
Twenty Ten You have version 1.2 installed. Update to 1.7.
Twenty Thirteen You have version 1.0 installed. Update to 1.3.
Twenty Twelve You have version 1.1 installed. Update to 1.5.

My question is, can and should these be updated without it messing up the theme that I am using (none of the above) and cause problems with my website?

    Thanks

    Which theme are you using?

It’s called Arthemia, not the latest version of it.

As that appears to be a commercial theme you’ll need to talk to your theme vendors about this.

So are you saying updating the built in themes affects your added commercial themes?

    Is that generally the case?

No, I am not giving an answer. I am advising you talk to your theme’s vendors, the people who distribute and possibly created the theme. They would either forward you onto the right people, or have created the theme themselves. That’s where you should ask your question.

I am using the free version of this theme, not a commercial version. The theme has been customized a lot in the CSS (and some small edits in the PHP) and the creators do not provide any support to free themes.

I can not purchase and upgrade to use the commercial version because of all the extensive work that has gone into the many edits of the theme the commercial version is a lot different.

I was hoping this forum would be where you can ask general questions about WordPress.

You can ask a general question, but realistically that question won’t be answered without delving into your theme. Hopefully someone who has used your theme and completed a major core update will be able to answer you. It’s just unlikely.

In general, updating the unused themes should not affect your site in an way.

    Thank you Andrew and Hareesh.

I will do a full backup of the website before doing any updates and then try and update.

I assume when you have a full backup of the whole website via FTP and backed up database, you should always be able to go back?

Thats right sundstedt. Carry on. Have a great day!
