If you search these forums, you’ll find numerous “cries for help” about the automatic plugin upgrading function that was added in 2.5. It appears to have either stopped working completely or works sporadically.

I’ve had eight plugins on one of my 2.6.1 blogs wiped off the dashboard trying to update automatically this evening. It get this message:

    Unpacking the update

    Deactivating the plugin

Removing the old version of the plugin

Could not remove the old plugin

    Installation Failed

And then when I go back to the plugins page in my dashboard — the plugin I tried to auto upgrade was GONE, even though it was still there looking at my sight via FTP.

It really, REALLY is frustrating that this has gone on for some time now. Everyone who has posted about the problem is either ignored, or there might be one follow-up post saying, “Yeah, I had that problem, too,” or whatever.

Is anyone addressing this?? I thought perhaps it would have been corrected in the 2.6.1 release, but I guess it hasn’t.

Will someone with some expertise on this at least respond??

I have never encountered such a problem with my plugin disappearing. The last time I saw the installation failed message, it was because I was using my FTP program and using the WordPress auto upgrade feature.
