Will PayPal Checkout be Deprecated for PayPal Payments

I noticed on the 2.1.2 release there is a notice included to help with adoption of the new PayPal Payments plugin. Is there a plan to deprecate the PayPal Checkout plugin or stop support on it? If there is, what is the expected timeline for that.

PayPal Checkout is no longer available to new merchants via the WooCommerce marketplace, but will continue to be supported for existing merchants. PayPal does not have plans to deprecate the product but strongly recommends upgrading to the new solution for the best experience and future feature upgrades.

Yes, adding checkout and cart blocks to PayPal Payments is on the roadmap, though I do not have an ETA for that at this time.

so no, not within this decade. The initial release should have never happened without it being compatible.

Thanks for the feedback! We’ll definitely be sure to pass that along to Inpsyde so that know that adding checkout and cart blocks to PayPal Payments is a high priority for many customers.

I’d also definitely recommend reaching out about this to them directly on the PayPal Payments forum: https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/woocommerce-paypal-payments/ They may be able to give you more specific information about the roadmap and plans for this functionality.

In the meantime, you can certainly continue to use PayPal Checkout. Support for PayPal Checkout is continuing for existing users!

My question is: What happens when we upgrade? Do we eventually have to pay for this new plugin or is it free also like WooCommerce PayPal Checkout Gateway?

There is no need to pay, it’s a free plugin.
