Wiggets in premium themes

I have a new WP.org blog temporarily running the Twenty Fifteen theme. Will the widgets I have now still work after I install a new third party premium theme or will I be limited to those advertized by the developer? In other words, are there “standard default widgets” that are there no matter what theme is used? Thanks.
