Support » Plugin: Top 10 - WordPress Popular posts by WebberZone » Wigdet only with excerpt, author, date?

  • Since 3.0.0, I guess, the widget changed always to all informations as excerpt, author and date, when I install the widget. Elder widgets on other websites don’t show these informations.
How can I exclude these and show only count? (I do only mark count!)

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

I don’t recall changing anything specifically in the widget. Is this a new widget you’re adding or the old ones?

Can you try to resave the settings and check what happens. Do you have any caching enabled and if so has this been cleared?

Clearing the cashes did not help.
May be it is the new? widget in WP 5.8?

I just checked and I can’t replicate this on my sites or test install. I have 5.8 running on them. It works in both customizer and via Appearance / Widgets.

What happens when you resave the widget settings?

When I resave the widget setting, all is ok on the WP operation level. But after publishing the result is as described on the website. It automatically marked the boxes „excerpt“, „author“ and „date“. If I do not mark any box, the result is the same. Afterwards all boxes are marked.

Are you trying this in Customizer or in Appearances / Widgets?

The former seems to be picking the new widget system with Gutenberg. An alternative in that case could be try the Top 10 block which is also available in this version and see if that makes a difference.

Ok, it worked via Customerizer, but not via Appearances. Mystery of WP.
Thank you very much for your patience!!

Thanks for confirming. It is indeed strange as it worked for Appearances for me perfectly. I’m hoping these go away with the next few releases of WP.

Just jumping in to confirm I am experiencing the same thing. Appearance > Widgets does not save the changed values on reload. Going through Customizer works though.

    @kavaxtreme @rurmeer

Can you’ll please confirm a few things for me:

    1. Did the widget settings break on upgrading to WP or Top 10 versions. Or did this happen when you were changing something on the site.

    2. Which theme are you using?

    3. Is it only Top 10 widget with this issue or are you noticing other widgets from other plugins as well?
If others are fine can you tell me which ones work?

    4. Do all the inbuilt WP widgets work? If so which ones?

    5. Is it just these checkboxes or all other settings in the widget that don’t save?

I’m to see if I can figure out what’s breaking this and hopefully get a fix out.

    1. I don´t know if it happened while upgrading WP or Top 10, because it was at the same time. I didn’t change something on the website.

    2. I am using 4 themes on 5 websites. It is all the same.

    3. It seems to be only Top 10. Archive or WP Foro are working well.

    4. Yes they do, e.g. search, newest posts, menue, keywords …

    5. Also post types settings aren’t necessary. Though they weren’t set by me, they all were set automatically in the Appearance mode. But it happened only when I work with the Appearance mode now. The old settings are not affected.

@rurmeer Thanks for confirming. I’ll try to do some tests. It could be a coding bug with the plugin’s widget process and I’ll check some of the others how they do the widgets and hopefully find a solution.

On point 5 above, when you hit save in Appearances, which of the options randomly set vs being correctly set. Or is it that nothing saves at all.

    (@kavaxtreme)

    1. This is the first time I’ve used Top 10, so it’s how it’s worked since I’ve had it.

    2. I’m using a custom theme I made myself.

    3. Other widgets I’ve tried have saved changes as expected.

    4. All widgets I’ve tested work.

    5. It seems to be the checkboxes and the “Only from categories” input that don’t want to save.

@kavaxtreme Thank you. This helps with my testing.

Point 5: Independently if I set a mark or not. After saving all marks are set in count, excerpt, author and date, but not in post, page, attachment. The result nevertheless is, posts, pages and attachments are showing. See e.g.

I haven’t been able to replicate this on my installs in Appearance mode.

Please can you’ll tell me which version of PHP are you’ll using?
