Support » Theme: Libre » Width and font size (too narrow/small)

Hi there– I haven’t been able to make my page full-width on a computer monitor, although it adapts to the size of a phone/tablet just fine. Too much white space on the sides. I’ve tried adjusting the @media min-width settings (as suggested in earlier posts here), but with no effect.

Also, the font size looks incredibly small, even though the default in the stylesheet is 18px.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Claire,

the font size looks incredibly small, even though the default in the stylesheet is 18px.

A plugin called Easy Bootstrap Shortcodes is adding css which changes the font-size to 10px.

    Please try disabling the plugin.

I’ve tried adjusting the @media min-width settings (as suggested in earlier posts here), but with no effect.

Have css edits been made directly to the theme’s style.css file?

If they have, please remove them, or (if it’s quicker) delete the theme and reinstall a fresh copy so that it returns to its original state.

The css edits make the .site container class in the theme left aligned rather than full width. There are syntax errors in the css, and some of it has been commented out incorrectly.

One problem with making edits directly to theme files is that those edits would be deleted and overwritten if the theme was updated.

An “update proof” of adding custom css would be to place it in the customizer in Appearance > Customize > Additional css. instead.

Once those steps have been taken, please post back here, and I can provide you with css to change the widths of various items. Thanks 🙂

Hi Gary. Thank you very much for that helpful advice! Deactiviating the plugin fixed the width and font size problem right away. I’ve also reinstalled the theme, & will definitely restrict CSS experiments to the “Additional” area in the future.

You’re welcome, glad I could help.

Aside: I studied Adorno in university. Best of luck with your site 🙂
