  • Maybe I’m just feeling cynical today, but I think its pretty deceitful to say in a plugin’s description that the widgets standard configuration doesn’t allow any control, but then when you install the plugin to say that to actually _use_ the control its given you, you’ll need to cough up $25. I’ve gone back and read the complete description, Installation, FAQ, the whole works, and absolutely nowhere in there is there the slightest mention that you’ll have to pay to get any instructions whatsoever in actually using it.

So, gripe over, I’m left looking at the ‘new’ version of WordPress’ standard ‘categories’ widget. Helpfully in that set of configurable fields is ‘current_category’ which must somehow be what I’m looking for – I want to display a list alongside posts of all the other posts within the same category. But what to put in it? Hmmm, tried text description, no result. Tried 1 (and 0) thinking its Boolean, no result. In fact it doesn’t matter what I put in this box, absolutely no change is effected in the resulting widget. I looked at the standard function for current_category, but still can’t work out how to use a category widget to simply list all posts in current category. Surely there must be a way of doing this – either with this plugin or with another one thats perhaps a bit more honest.

And to offset any morality questions, yes I do donate to plugin authors who’s code helps me, as the authors of my other plugins can attest!
