I am extremely new to this, first of all.

Second of all, when I go to widgets, I only see about 16 options. I thought this was normal until I saw on the forums that there are a ton of widgets that should be available.

Thirdly, I tried adding plug-ins that seemed to do what I wanted the widgets to do and they do nothing.

I'm not sure if this is an issue with my theme or what. I am hosting through GoDaddy and just need to add social media buttons to my posts. Any help would be extremely appreciated. This is my first blog and my first attempt at anything this technical.

well, each plugin has a different way...
Sometimes it appears as a widget and then you need to grab it to the sidebar widgets
(if you didn't notice you need to grab them to be active)

and sometimes it's under the setting in the left panel, look over there also...

  3. @oritzio is right, there are currently 22,399 plugins in the plugin repository. You can add as many as you want, but you should only add what you need.

Personally for soc med icons, I like this one best: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/addthis/
