I had similar issue when 3.9 upgrade came out and had to move/recreate all my widgets to fix it. That was a couple weeks ago.

Yesterday things were fine. No updates on WP or plugins. Woke up this morning and widgets were gone or moved around. Home Page Sidebar widgets moved to footer. Slider gone. Post sidebar widgets gone. I fixed slider and some of the home page widgets. But the post widgets are still wonky. Genesis Featured Widget Amplified on home page still not aligning properly (supposed to be 3 columns).

How could this change overnight with no updates? Could my site have been hacked? I did see some login attempts and 2 lockouts yesterday.

    Any help is appreciated!

  • If there were 2 lockouts, that definitely sounds suspicious. Have you changed your password and checked to see if any “rogue” users have been created?

If the site wasn’t hacked, then I would check with Genesis theme support. I’ve never used Genesis myself but I’m guessing that it does quite a bit with determining how the widgets are displayed and so on. Maybe there was a Genesis update that triggered it? Just a thought.

    Hope this helps some.

I only show myself as a user. And I checked with Genesis and they said there was no update and they don’t see any problems on their end. Hoping someone from WordPress can chime in or curious if anyone else is having this ongoing problem?

I’m going to go in and fix all my widgets manually but hoping this doesn’t keep happening. Like I said, it only started happening after the most recent 3.9 WordPress update.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

No one else has this issue. It seems to be specific to your site.

I can attest to the fact that at least one other person “has this issue.”

This morning (Monday May 12) I logged into a project we have going…
Wordpress, Genesis. The front page is static and composed mostly of widgets. Most of those widgets vanished over the weekend. Last known activity on the site…3.91 update.

I would be interested to know which theme the OP was using.

I should have held off posting. I have found several others with “missing widget” issues after the most recent update to WP (3.91). For what it is worth, this doesn’t seem to be either a new issue nor 3.91 specific.

In my case, I found the missing widgets in the “Inactive Widgets” area.
Appearance > Widgets > Bottom left corner.

I hope you have as easy a time resolving this as I did.
