# Widgets

 * on our site [http://www.estpuk.com](http://www.estpuk.com) we are using a templte
   from [http://www.wpart.org/](http://www.wpart.org/) when we try to add widgets
   to the sidebar all the existing stuff disappears just leaving the widget. I have
   spent a few hours trying to find a similar post on the forum but had no luck.
   Does ANYONE have any ideas please? Let me just add that I am a newbie to WordPress
   so you will have to forgive me if you think this is a stupid question!

 * That is usually how the theme’s are designed. your sidebar.php file controls 
   it…. they are usually coded to be like:
 * if there are no widgets, display: recent posts, pages, archives, blogroll, and
   meta (just an example)….
 * If there are widgets, display those.
 * You should have default widgets you can put on the sidebar to replace anything
   that disappeared…..
