Widget Widget?

I recently made my theme widget friendly. It says I can upload widgets, etc. But when I drag them over, they do not show up. When I switch to a theme that I downloaded earlier in the week that was already widget friendly, they show up. I uploaded the functions.php file with the correct code, then placed the other code in the sidebar area. Am I missing something else? How can I check that I put the codes in right?
