Widget not updating for new posts without manual "save"

I just installed this plugin on the “Admired” Theme. I added the widget to a sidebar, modified the settings to include only posts from a specific category, and select “Save.” This works fine, and the sidebar displays recent posts from that category. However, when I add a new post and select the category, the sidebar widget does not update when I refresh the page, and one updates if i go back into the widget and hit “Save” again.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?
