Support » Plugin: GR Progress Widget » Widget not appearing

  • Good afternoon,

The host of this WordPress site recently changed to a new server, and we are trying to rule out if the current error I am experiencing is isolated to that server, or related to settings on my part.

Since the server migration, any widgets after and including the gr progress widget will not load (or appear) in the respective sidebar it has been allocated to, once I add the user ID and API key into the settings of gr progress. If no information is added into the gr progress widget, it will load saying “widget not configured correctly.” My website is http://gallup4sowk.ucalgaryblogs.ca.

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

    API key: i4NCXV91NhvFBlsihEpBA
    Goodreads URL: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/45616381-lando-gallrisian

Hi! Thank you for your patience. I was traveling during the weekend and unable to test.

I have tested using your API key and Goodreads URL, and things seem to work just fine. But the “Widget not configured correctly” only appears if the user ID, API key, or shelf name is empty. Did you perhaps forget to enter a shelf name? I used currently-reading, which worked fine.

    Hello Cmeeren,

I hope your travels were good!

Thank you for responding to my inquiry. I had left the information on the widget empty on purpose so that the widget would visually appear. Thank you for testing it on your end and confirming that the profile and API keys work. I have reentered the URL, API key, and verified the name of the shelf as currently-reading. The widget is now no longer visible. I wanted to show a before and after of what happens once the widget has the data entered. Are there specific ports that the widget needs access to pull information Goodreads?

No specific ports; everything is done using HTTP/HTTPS.

Alright – thanks for letting me know! When looking at the homepage code, I do not see any code for the gr progress widget. What would be your suggestion on how to proceed next?

I too noticed and was puzzled by the lack of GR Progress widget code. I can’t see how that can be the fault of GR Progress Widget, because not even the wrappers put in place by WordPress are present. (Unless the wrappers are part of the theme and the theme you’re using somehow does not add widget wrappers, which seems weird, but I’m no expert on WP themes.)

I you haven’t already, you could try removing the widget and then uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin. Other than that I’m afraid I’m all out of suggestions.
