Support » Plugin: Tiny Yardage Calculator » Widget is not working

  • **edit** The Author has contacted me and has been nothing but helpful!!

I have just installed this plugin and see nothing in the admin. I applied the short code, and the widget appears, but it is not working. I input numbers, and nothing happens.

Hi, I’m sorry to say I only just saw this. I can see from the example page that you provided that you have tried out a different plugin to calculate your totals. If you ever want to try the Tiny Yardage Calc again, I’m happy to take a look. Although you probably noticed that it doesn’t get very many updates, that’s just because it’s extremely simple, not because it’s buggy or outdated– I can’t say what’s gone wrong in your case but if you want to try it out again, just say so and I’m happy to do what I can to help you troubleshoot a possible theme or plugin conflict.

Thank you for the reply. I believe the isshading it in the sidebar widget in Woocommerce, as I have been told that woo-commerce and this plugin both use a calc function.
We pieced together a calculator that uses iframe and pulls html info for the three different calculators, square, circle, and triangle.

Can you add the other calculators if they could be updated to work in that environment? Circle and triangle?

I can definitely look into adding circle and triangle functionality. You’re the second one to ask about adding a feature like that, so I’ll try to make some time this week to add it.

Meanwhile, though, can you try adding the shortcode to a widget in your sidebar and let me know what happens? The plugin is super simple and self-contained and should work with no fuss, so I’d like to figure out what’s gone wrong in your case and get it working for you.

FYI, you won’t see anything in the admin about this plugin, by design. This plugin doesn’t add anything to your admin. It just adds the shortcode so that you can use the calculator wherever you’d like it, whether in a page, post, widgetized area, etc.

    Thanks!

@gmkws Following up on this– I would really like to help you get the Tiny Yardage Calculator set up and working for you. Your last reply had a typo in it, I think, when you said “I believe the isshading it in the sidebar widget,” and I’ve been wondering what that means ever since.

Tiny Yardage Calculator does absolutely work in a sidebar, and whether Woocommerce is there or not is immaterial as they don’t interact.

I will be releasing the updated version with additional yardage calculations for circular and triangular areas (and and an additional rounding method) shortly, so if I can help you get it working you should be good to go without resorting to an iframe (which is not an ideal solution for maintenance, user experience and SEO reasons, as I’m sure you know).

Sorry for the delay in response. I believe I was trying to say that I was told it was not working properly as woo-commerce and tinyclc both use a calc function.

Here is what I am going to do.
I will set up a dev site with the same things installed, and I will give you access to see the issue we experienced. And if it is an issue.

Thank you very much for your response.

Sounds fine. I’ll wait for the notification. But I may not need it because I now understand the issue– it’s conflicting with another plugin with the same function name.

TYC does still work fine with woocommerce installed but maybe there’s other variables needed to reproduce the issue. But honestly calc() is an extremely generic function name so I absolutely should change it! So that’s slated for the next update, to be released shortly.

So I created the dev site and added tiny yardage calc, and now it is working!!? I can wait to see it with the circle and triangle.

You can see how we did ours as far as looks. (https://gerritk2.sg-host.com/product-category/barks) I will switch over, so I don’t have to deal with Iframe. You ROCK!

Yes, with the bare bones, it works. I will see what is killing it.

I’m so glad you got it worked out. I really appreciate the heads up about calc(), too, that is an easy fix to a problem that really was inevitable. So thanks!

Would you consider changing the star rating to reflect your experience? This little plugin has such a niche purpose that it will always have a small userbase, so every review really affects whether someone trusts the plugin.

I wrote it because I was building a bark and mulch website and was sick of plugins that shove ads in your face and bloat your site with stuff you don’t need, so I hope it continues to save people time.

@gmkws For the security of that site but also any other sites on the same server, I would edit your post to get rid of the login info you posted! 😬 Word to the wise 🙂

Done. Let me know when you add the circle and triangle so I can get around the issues I am having with popups and Iframe. lol

    (@ensignrolaren)

I’ve released the update with the circle and right triangle calculations now (as well as changed the function name, so you shouldn’t experience a conflict anymore). I wrote out the complete details of how to use it on the main plugin page, with examples. If you have any troubles, please reply and I will do my best to help.

Thank you for all the updates you have done! Works amazing. I have one question, we are using the “Hundredths” can it use “Tenths”? I tried adding it, but it did not seem to change anything.

I appreciate any help you can provide.
